I’m up late, stomach churning, because I don’t see a way forward. There’s no reward for good work, no consequences for bad. A progressionless limbo. And it starts to wear on you.
Looking at job listings, page after page wants someone with an advanced degree. Now you can argue that this certificates a certain level of knowledge, or demonstrates an ability to produce in a politicized environment, but part of me also thinks that it’s about doing what you’re told.. I’ve never been good at that. The emperor’s not wearing any clothes, that’s a terrible idea, and yeah those pants make you look fat. This is good in some professions, like bridge building where you want more than hope holding things up.
I guess the main point is that the longer one stays around, without a solid foundation or careful curation, familiarity breeds contempt.
